DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE

More than reading fault codes.

A diagnostic trouble code is a starting point, not a complete diagnosis. The same code can be triggered by wiring, power supply, sensors, actuators, communication faults or a mechanical problem. Replacing the component named in a code without testing can waste time and money.

At SHED 31 we use scan data together with electrical testing and real-world fault finding. Where required, this can include live data, power and ground checks, continuity and voltage-drop testing, sensor and actuator testing and CAN/LIN network investigation.

Warning lights & fault codes

Engine, ABS, airbag, transmission and other control-system faults investigated using scan data and targeted testing.

No-start diagnostics

Testing power supply, communication, sensors, starting systems and other causes of crank/no-start or no-crank conditions.

CAN/LIN network faults

Investigation of lost communication, modules that disappear from the network and wiring or supply problems affecting vehicle networks.

Battery drain & charging faults

Parasitic drain, charging issues, power distribution and electrical problems that can repeatedly flatten a battery.

Auto electrical fault finding in Cork.

Modern vehicles rely on interconnected electronic systems. A single damaged wire, poor ground, water ingress or power-supply problem can create multiple warning lights and seemingly unrelated fault codes. We trace electrical faults methodically instead of replacing parts until the symptom disappears.

Intermittent warning lightsFaults that appear only sometimes can be caused by wiring, connectors, voltage supply or network communication issues.
Vehicle will not startNo-crank and crank/no-start faults can require testing of several systems rather than one component.
Modules not communicatingCAN/LIN faults, missing modules or multiple U-codes can point to network, wiring or power problems.
Battery goes flatParasitic current draw or a control module that does not go to sleep can discharge the battery while parked.
Sensors and actuatorsWe can test signals, power supplies and commanded operation before parts are replaced where practical.
Difficult intermittent faultsProblems that come and go often need data, electrical measurements and reproduction of the fault rather than a quick code scan.

Diagnostic equipment is only part of the job.

Professional scanners can identify stored faults, live values and communication status, but they do not automatically tell you which component is bad. Effective diagnostics means interpreting the data, checking the circuit and confirming the cause. That approach is particularly important on modern vehicles where one electrical fault can affect several control modules.

Diagnostics for modern petrol, diesel, hybrid and EV vehicles.

SHED 31 works across modern petrol and diesel vehicles as well as suitable hybrid and electric vehicle systems. Hybrid and EV work is accepted by appointment, including diagnostic investigation and high-voltage battery diagnosis where appropriate.

DIAGNOSTICS FAQ

Car diagnostics & auto electrical questions.

Common questions about vehicle diagnostics and electrical fault finding in Cork.

How much does car diagnostics cost in Cork?

The time required depends on the fault. A simple stored-code check and a difficult intermittent electrical fault are very different jobs. Contact us with the vehicle details and symptoms so we can advise on the next step.

Do you just plug in a diagnostic scanner?

No. Scan data is used as evidence, but electrical and practical testing may also be required to identify the root cause.

Can you diagnose CAN bus and LIN bus faults?

Yes. We investigate suitable CAN/LIN communication faults, missing modules, U-codes and related wiring or power-supply issues.

Can you find what is draining my car battery?

Yes. Battery drain can be caused by modules, wiring, accessories or power-management issues. The vehicle may need to remain at the workshop while the sleep current is monitored.

Do you diagnose cars that will not start?

Yes. No-start diagnosis can include power supply, starter control, immobiliser-related symptoms, sensors, ECU communication and other relevant systems.

Do you repair wiring faults?

Yes, where practical. Wiring, connector, power and ground faults can be repaired after the cause and affected circuit are identified.

Can you diagnose intermittent electrical faults?

Yes, although intermittent faults can require additional time because the problem may need to be reproduced or captured in live data and electrical measurements.

Do you work on hybrid and electric vehicles?

Yes, suitable hybrid and EV diagnostics are available by appointment, including high-voltage battery diagnosis and repair where appropriate.
